Today I went to go see the movie Precious and I must say that this film was one hell of a story. Precious is a story that should be heard in the black community because many women today still suffer from what Precious went through. Precious was mistreated since the age of 3 and finally stood up for herself when she had enough. This shows that anybody can get back up again once they have fallen. I advice everyone to go see the movie, but I must let you guys know the pros and cons of the movie before you go see it.
Pros: The actors/ actresses all did a good job in acting out the characters. There were no dull moments in the film. Whenever there was an emotional scene, a funny part would be shown right after just to change the moods of viewers. (Yes the movie was that touching)
Cons: All of the light skinned characters played the inspirational/ innocent roles, while the dark skinned characters played the bad characters (such as her parents who molested her). Black people are stereotyped in the movie which is a shame because the producer and co-producer is African American. The movie will not be shown at Jack London until the 20th, so you might want to go to AMC Theaters in Emeryville. Oh and Monique who played Precious mom, made me feel uncomfortable because she was acting an usual character. (I’m used to seeing Monique playing in comedy movies) It’s like going from a Care Bear to The chainsaw massacre.
When will these images of the black human race end? Overall, I rate the movie as a 8.5 out of 10, only because of the cons I just mentioned.
